Argentina has officially reached its first trade deficit in 14 years
Argentina has officially reached its first surplus in 14 years. Javier Milei has turned a $7.94 billion trade deficit in 2023 into a massive $18-19 billion surplus in 2024, achieving this remarkable feat in just one year in office. By reducing overregulation in the energy and agricultural sectors, Argentina’s exports are booming and gradually regaining its status as an exporting powerhouse in South America.
How to invest in Argentina?
The only exchange-traded funds we know of that provide exposure to Argentina are Global X MSCI Argentina ETF (NYSEArca: ARGT) and iShares MSCI Argentina and Global Exposure ETF (BATS: AGT).
The problem is, these are US ETFs, which means they are not open to European investors. Another way to buy into the US stock market is to buy shares in Mercado Libre or Globant, the two largest stocks on the Argentine stock exchange. Both of these stocks can be traded on the US stock exchanges through Avanza or Nordnet. So what is your best way to invest in Argentina?
