China’s natural gas consumption increased by 11.9% in January-April

China’s natural gas consumption increased strongly in the first four months of 2024, and the country stepped up its green development efforts, official data showed.

Apparent consumption of natural gas during this period amounted to 143.73 billion cubic meters, an increase of 11.9 percent year-on-year, according to the National Development and Reform Commission.

In April alone, consumption rose by 11.8 percent compared to the same period last year to a total of 35.46 billion cubic meters, the Commission said.

The country produced 83 billion cubic meters of natural gas in the January-April period, up 5 percent from a year earlier, according to the National Bureau of Statistics.

China also imported 43 million tons of natural gas during the same period, a 20.7 percent year-on-year increase, the agency said.
