Mexico’s peso is trading at its highest level against the dollar since 2015

Mexikos peso har överträffat sina latinamerikanska motsvarigheter, även efter att den sänkte räntorna förra veckan då inflationen har dämpats långt under sin topp. Höga räntor har bidragit till att stärka den mexikanska valutan, vilket avgående presidenten Andrés Manuel López Obrador har utpekat som ett tecken på ekonomisk framgång inför ett presidentval i juni. Hans Moreno-parti har stöttat föregångaren Claudia Sheinbaum för att tävla mot rivalen Xóchitl Gálvez.

Mexico’s peso has outperformed its Latin American counterparts, even after it cut interest rates last week as inflation has eased well below its peak.

High interest rates have helped strengthen the Mexican currency, which outgoing President Andrés Manuel López Obrador has cited as a sign of economic success ahead of a presidential election in June. His Moreno party has backed predecessor Claudia Sheinbaum to run against rival Xóchitl Gálvez.
